Key Muscles of Hatha Yoga
Scientific Keys Vol. 1 Raymond A. Long MD. Illustrations by Chris Macivor

$55.00

We call this "The Scary Eyeballs Book" because the illustrations of the muscles and bones are presented on a skeleton with eyeballs. In yoga, the gaze (dristi) is important for the postures. But hey, the information in this book is so awesome and easy to understand that you can get past the eyeballs really quickly! It's all the same scientific information in Antatomy for Movement (below) but it features shorter descriptions and better illustrations. You'll assimilate the info faster and more functionally. Excellent tool for teachers and recommended for Carolena's "Your Muscles, Your Body, Your Dance" classes.
165 pages, spiral bound paperback, 400 color illustrations.

Anatomy of Movement
Blandine Calais-Germain

$28.50

This book played a key role in the creation of Traditional Tribal Style Dance. I wanted to use "art and science" to produce the richest movement from each step. In learning about the mechanics of the body and how it moves naturally, I was able to "see into" the steps and draw out what I was looking for. In simple but accurate terms and illustrations, the author clarifies how and why the muscles and bones do what they do. An excellent reference.
