Immortal Egypt

$18.00

Hossam Ramzy and Phil Thorton teamed up on this jazzy release. They created the original pieces in the studio and then went to Egypt to sample a selection of master musicians. They then layered the samples into their soundscapes. The result is a solid mix of 10 tracks. Granted, most of it is Oriental Style, but some pieces are good for adding a "modern" feel to Tribal Style dance. Get it just for #5 Derwood Green (!)

1.  At The Gates Of The Citadel 5:32 Slow - although this is a classical Egyptian sound, the moderization with synthesizers makes it possible to dance to using Tribal moves. Kind of funky actually!
2. Cairo Blues 8:47 Dramatic slow - mizmar and percussion in masmoudi.
3. Last Words By The Temple 7:49 Dramatic slow - another stagey piece.
4. Morocco Dance 6:19 Dramatic slow - 6/8, lots of texture, the beginning has a great sense of anticipation.
5.  Derwood Green 6:07 Slow to fast - this is one of the best songs for a group to dance to. It has slow parts, fast parts and lots of good phrasing to react to.
6.  El Moulid 6:46 Good listening.
7.  Praying For Rain 7:02 Dramatic slow - another stagey piece.
8.  Emerald Minarets In A Sea Of Stars 5:40 Dramatic slow - another stagey piece.
9.  Sunrise Over Giza 6:12 Good listening.
10.  Immortal Egypt 6:17 Dramatic slow - this song reminds me of "Horse Latitudes" by Jim Morrison, it's very spooky and really moves a dancer to come up with some emotion.
