Student Salons are held at the FCBD Studio
670 South Van Ness, San Francisco
Salons are an opportunity for students to gain performance experience in a supportive setting. We are creating a new atmosphere for the Salons by turning the studio and store into Cafe FatChance for the day. While there are no waitresses crisscrossing the performance area and comestibles are simple, the salon invokes the feeling of the old Cafe Istanbul where FCBD first started. Instead of the usual "stage front" presentation, we fashion an aisle with tables and cushions along the perimeter, giving the dancers and the audience an opportunity to experience the real magic of improvisation. Performances take place all afternoon as small groups present their sets. If you are a student and have never performed at a FCBD Student Salon but would like to, please read the following information: Requirements for participating in a Student Salon: * that you attend at least one Fundamentals (Level One) and Combinations (Level Two) each week from now until the show
* you will also need to begin attending Intermediate classes so you can learn to put all the pieces together and get comfortable dancing with the more experienced dancers If you don't feel ready to perform, make sure to come and watch the show so you'll be ready for the next Salon. We hope to present Salons every three to four months.
